Stella & Dot – A Review

stelladot

Stella & Dot Boutique Jewelry is another fast growing jewelry home party and direct sales business.  When I checked out their website I was blown away by their unique jewelry.  Also they have received some great press in various magazines and even some celebrities wear their jewelry.  A consultant with Stella & Dot  answered a few questions about this exciting home party business opportunity.

Provide a brief description of the company

Stella & Dot is a boutique jewelry company that sells luxe category jewelry at affordable prices! With a large range of materials such as 24k & 14K gold, gold vermeil, sterling silver, crystals, semi-precious stones, resin, enamel, and more there is definitely something to suit every style, age and budget! Stella & Dot jewels already have a celebrity following and have received loads of media attention – most recently in the March issues of Lucky, InStyle, Better Homes & Gardens and Redbook!

Provide a brief description of the products

Jewelry in a large range of materials in various styles – delicate, statement pieces, bold and more. We carry rings, necklaces, bracelets and a few pieces for men as well! Our jewelry falls in the Luxe range which is the category right between costume jewelry and fine jewelry.

What is the most popular product?

I would say the most popular product right now would be the Happy Flower necklace! The line that seems to be consistently popular would be our Be in Love charms – chains, bangles, and hoop earrings that can be customized with initial charms, sentiment charms, relationship charms, briolettes and more!

What is your favorite thing about your company?

My favorite thing about this company is that they are experiencing a ton of media attention, yet they still remain very focused on their Stylists. While the company continues to grow at a very quick rate, we are still very small and a lot of areas haven’t really been introduced to Stella & Dot yet – which is a fabulous thing!!!

Provide a brief company history including how long in business and how many consultants in how many countries.

Stella & Dot had previously started as a DIY jewelry party company called Luxe Jewels in 2006. In early 2008 they changed over to the name Stella & Dot (the names of the owners Grandmother’s) and launched a new, more trendy, ready-made line. Blythe Harris, a designer that studied at the prestigious Parsons School of Paris, as well as in Mexico and India and has held top positions at DeBeers in London, Cartier and Banana Republic Jewelry joined the team as Chief Creative Officer. Maya Brenner, a highly skilled jewelry designer that has quite the celebrity following (Penelope Cruz, Cameron Diaz and Madonna are fans) and has had her own successful design business selling her jewelry through Fred Segal, Henri Bendel, and Anthropologie as well as having her peices featured on TV Shows such as Sex and the City, Friends, The Bachelor and American Idol joined the Stella & Dot design team as well. In early 2009 Wendy Mink, another highly skilled designer, joined the design team. Stella & Dot currently has about 1300 Stylists throughout the US and Canada. The opportunity is still very ground-floor, especially in the Eastern part of the US where I’m located!

What is the cost to start up? Are there any additional expenses? At start up or yearly renewal?

The cost to become a Stylist is always $199 plus tax and shipping. This also includes a GC for $350 retail (some months there is a special for a higher amount) in free jewels of your choice for your display, as well as 50% off any additional samples you choose to purchase when using the promo. The only additional expenses to you would be any additional business supplies you choose to order other than what is in your kit or any display pieces, however, there is no requirement to order any additional items. I have some fabulous recommendations for different places to order unique and beautiful pieces for your display in addition to Stella & Dot’s gorgeous displays. There is a yearly renewal of $59.

What comes in the start up kit?

Invitation postcards, Look Book Catalogs, Order Forms, Hostess Planners, Party Display Sign, Visa/Mastercard tent, One Mini Look Book, One Month Subscription to your Stylist E-Boutique and your GC for your $350 retail shopping spree and 50% off additional samples

How much is the commission on personal sales and downline?

25% base commission on all personal sales, party sales and e-boutique sales. There is also an opportunity to earn an additional 5% bonus commission and a 5% business building bonus (for business supplies), and a jewelry booster bonus each month. Commission amounts on team sales vary depending on Stylist Rank and sales per month. I am happy to send you a chart of our compensation plan in detail!

What is the minimum sales requirements to stay active? Is it monthly, quarterly, etc?

There are no minimum sales requirements to stay active as a Stylist. However, there are some sales requirements when team building. See comp plan for details.

How often does the catalog change?

Twice. There is a Fall and Spring line and there is also a small amount of jewelry released around the holidays as well.

Discuss the company support for consultants?

There is an AMAZING amount of support available to us as Stylists!!!1. S&D TV offers training via online video tutorials in the back office
2. There are live weekly training calls with the corp office as well as recorded calls to listen to at your convenience
3. Tons of downloads and trainings in the back office
4. The new Stylist Space Ning Network where you can meet other Stylists in the area, discuss topics on the forums, view display pictures and more!
5. Support from me as your upline!
6. Support from my upline – the fabulous Dream Team!!!

What are some of the additional benefits/rewards consultants can earn?

There is a fabulous Jump Start rewards program as well as monthly bonuses and sales incentives!

How often are consultants paid?

Consultants are paid twice per month on a Stella & Dot Global Cash Card. The funds can be accrued and transferred to a bank account (small fee’s will be applied) or the card can be used like a debit card as well.

Hi Chisty-

I’m really interested in starting with Stella and Dot…..I’m just doing some final research and crunching the numbers for getting started.

The only thing I don’t see any details on is finding the beautiful Stella displays and stands. Are there details you can give me about ordering those to set up parties?

Thanks for your help!

Hi Molly!

We have gorgeous display pieces available to us through S&D and there are also a lot of places us Stylists purchase pieces from as well! There are tons of tips to really make your display your own!! Are you already working with a Stylist?

Amy September 9, 2009 at 6:18 pm

Christy- where on the East Coast are you? I am thinking of becoming a stylist and I live in Virginia…wondering if there are already many S&D stylists in my area. Waiting to hear from the Home Office about this…Thanks for the input.

Thanks Christy! Also- do you know when the next month for higher *free jewelry certificate is? Want to make the most of my start:)

Christy Eckert September 10, 2009 at 6:28 pm

Hi Amy! I’m not sure if/when there will be an offer for higher than the $350 promo. Honestly, I would suggest that if you are wanting to get started not to wait – especially with the Holiday season quickly approaching! If you have any questions please don’t hesitate to contact me at christy007(at)comcast.net. Thanks!

Hi Christy, wondering if you would share the names of the display places that you use in addition to Stella and Dot’s displays.
Thanks!
